Description:

Pre-Columbian, Mayan territories, ca. 600 to 950 CE. An unusually large example of Mayan artistry carved from a stunning piece of jade of inherently beautiful pale apple green and white hues, depicting an ornately decorated standing shamanic lord or deity with an expressive visage donning an elaborate headdress that appears to include an additional profile visage and large earspools, holding his hands out in an offering pose. What sets this piece apart is its scale; most Mayan jade carvings are less than half the size of this example! Perforated behind from top to bottom for suspension and/or attachment. Custom stand. Size: 2.375" W x 4.125" H (6 cm x 10.5 cm); 4.625" H (11.7 cm) on stand

Provenance: private R.D. collection, Long Beach, California, USA collection, acquired over 25 years from various major galleries
