Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Maya, Post-Classic Period, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A hand-carved basalt stele of rectangular form exhibiting a highly stylized anthropomorphic figure with arms laid across the bottom of the panel and the chest dominated by 2 sizable necklace beads that flank a larger ovoid medallion. The stylized countenance is comprised of full cheeks, generously lidded eyes, a broad nose, and a broad brow, and the entire head is covered by a large helmet, perhaps representative of a ball player. Size: 4.5" L x 9.875" W x 15" H (11.4 cm x 25.1 cm x 38.1 cm); 16.125" H (41 cm) on included custom stand.
