New Zealand, Maori culture, ca. 18th century or earlier. Rare hand-tooled "Mari Jade" also known as Pounamu in lovely deep greenstone with brown veining. Sharpened at an offset to one end with butt remaining unfinished or eroded from centuries. When you hold this in your hands you can feel how it fit so perfectly into the maker's hand hundreds of years ago wearing a slight patterned groove. Size: 10.375" L x 2" W (26.4 cm x 5.1 cm)
