Roman, Imperial Period, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A beautiful glass vessel of elegant form with a spherical body, a slightly concave neck base, a tapered neck, and a thick, collard rim. The surfaces exhibit layers of fine iridescence in silvery and rainbow hues that dazzle the eye. Roman glass vessels like this were used to contain oils, perfumes, or other substances and were typically used in the toilette of a wealthy Roman woman.
