Description:

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Inca Empire, ca. 1200 to 1532 CE. A beautiful mace head in the form of a six-pointed star, hand-carved from mottled beige-hued stone with light and dark inclusions. The mace head has a central cylindrical shaft used to attach a lengthy wooden handle, and the six points ensured an effective strike from any angle. Though mace heads like this example are often seen as offensive armaments, scholars also posit they were instruments used to convey the power and status of its owner. Size: 5.875" Diameter (14.9 cm).
