Northern Peru, Moche III, Ca 400 to 500 CE. A very large and significant pottery flared bowl - called a florero - used in Moche ceremonies. Painted n the interior in what is referred as "fine-line" technique in repeated scene of Moche lord hunting deer. Hunter shown in full regalia of helmet, ear flares and decorated tunic holding atl atl in left hand and two atl atl projectiles in his right. His target is a spotted male (and artist seemingly making a large point of this fact) deer with rack of antlers and cactus and other foliage in the field. Exterior decorated with five low relief scenes of deer running right, base perforated and holding rattling stones. A large vessel measuring 11-3/4"D x 7-7/8"H.
