Description:

Native American, Southwestern USA, Arizona and New Mexico, Hopi Peoples, ca. 1974 CE. A hand carved wooden "whipper" kachina doll by an unknown Hopi artist, with a painted leather skirt, shells, rabbit fur, faux black fur, and feathers. Straw sticks are clasped in the kachina's hands to discipline and maintain order during performances. The base is faintly signed, and the artist's name is indiscernible, but "Hopi" & "74" are partially visible. Size: 9" L x 8.25" W x 23.5" H (22.9 cm x 21 cm x 59.7 cm)
