Description:

Native American, southern Arizona, Hohokam culture, Tanque Verde phase, ca. 1150 to 1300 CE. A very large bowl decorated with red basket-weave/stitched textile-like motifs on the exterior walls and red triangles with spirals emerging from the ends all around the interior rim. Red-on-buff bowls and small vessels were used in Hohokam households for more than six centuries. Given their utilitarian forms and sizes, scholars suggest that these red-on-buff vessels were primarily used to prepare, serve, and consume food. Despite the fact that red-on-buff vessels were part of everyday Hohokam life, scholars also believe that the designs and some of the forms held special meanings. Size: 12.25" in diameter x 6.25" H (31.1 cm x 15.9 cm)

This piece has been tested using thermoluminescence (TL) analysis and has been found to be ancient and of the period stated. A full report will accompany purchase.
