Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico, Guerrero region, Chontal culture, ca. 600 to 400 BCE. A sizable head that is hand-carved from mottled greenstone of sage and forest hues. The poignant countenance features a prominent nose, string-cut eyes and brows, full lips, and a biconically drilled suspension tab behind the forehead. Vertical, lug-form ears round out the facial features of this intriguing example from ancient Mexico. Size: 3.6" L x 4" W x 5" H (9.1 cm x 10.2 cm x 12.7 cm); 6.625" H (16.8 cm) on included custom stand.
