Description:

Magna Graecia, possibly Tarentum ca. 4th to 3rd century BCE. A mold-made, terracotta protome of a beautiful goddess, presenting a delicate visage comprised of deep-set, almond-shaped eyes beneath arched brows, an aquiline nose, smooth cheeks, a rounded chin, and full, heart-shaped lips all upon a long, slender neck and crowned by an elaborate, wavy coiffure with corkscrew tresses falling down the right side of her neck, as well as a lovely diadem and what may be the lower end of a polos rising above. The piece has a reddish clay body that was finished in a milky white hue. The sculptor of this piece modeled the beautiful goddess with the utmost sensitivity and skill. Perforation at upper end for suspension or attachment. Size: 5.5" W x 9" H (14 cm x 22.9 cm); 10.125" H (25.7 cm) on included custom stand.
