Description:

**Originally Listed At $900**

Magna Graecia, South Italic Colonies, Apulia, ca. early 4th century BCE. A beautiful wheel-thrown pottery oinochoe of a sizable composition with a flared foot, a wide, piriform body with a rounded shoulder, a substantial trefoil rim, and an applied bifurcated handle joining rim to shoulder. Almost the entire vessel is covered in a lustrous black glaze save for the lower body, underside of foot, and interior, and one reserved red-hued stripe encircles the shoulder. Faint areas of silvery iridescence cover most of the glazed areas, giving this vessel an elegant presentation evocative of ancient Greece. Size: 6" W x 9.2" H (15.2 cm x 23.4 cm).

Provenance: private East Coast, USA collection, acquired from Dr. Bernhard I. Muller at Galerie Ostracon, Thalwil, Switzerland in 2016; ex-private F. Maino collection, Medrisio, Switzerland, acquired by descent and in family possession before 1968
