Description:

South America, Bolivia, millions and millions of years old. A section of amethyst (purple quartz) with a huge yellowish quartz inclusion from the interior lining of a large geode. Geodes form from hollow bubbles inside of a layer of rocks. Rain or other water sources falling on the exterior of the rock cause the elements within it to flow into the bubbles, forming gorgeous crystals like these within. Trace variations in mineral content, especially iron, magnesium, or copper, can have huge effects. The purple of amethyst comes from iron in silicate. Size: 15.5" W x 21.7" H (39.4 cm x 55.1 cm); 31.2" H (79.2 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-private Barios collection, Bolivia
