Description:

Central Europe, Muschelkalk Layer - Alverdissen, Germany, Triassic Period, ca. 240 to 230 million years ago. A very large museum-grade specimen of one partial and nine complete sea lilies (crinoids) Encrinus lilliformis, from the Triassic Period of the Alverdissen deposits. The size is the maximum found and the detail is incredible! Each is preserved in solid calcite with stunning, full three-dimensional detail and anatomy. The preparation work that went into this piece to remove all the rock between the arms and stem sections to the level was extremely time-consuming and has yielded a fascinating display example. The preservation and natural positions of the crinoids are the best possible with long, graceful stems sticking fully off the rock surface. Size: 32" W x 21" H (81.3 cm x 53.3 cm)

Provenance: acquired in 2012 from a German collector
