Description:

North America / Siberia, Pliocene to Pleistocene period, ca. 2.6 million to 10,000 years ago. A massive fossilized molar from a prehistoric mammoth - this tooth is a fascinating structure that reflects the animal's dietary adaptations and evolutionary history. The crown exhibits a dark occlusal surface of gray enamel that encloses the lighter brown dentine - forming the grinding surface for the grasses and vegetal material that they consumed. The craggy roots would have cemented this tooth into the jaws of the animal, and mammoths had a total of 4 molars, which they would go through 6 times as they matured. Size: 12" L x 4" W x 9" H (30.5 cm x 10.2 cm x 22.9 cm)
