Pre-Columbian, Panama, Gran Cocle, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. Very large round shallow plate painted in shades of red, black, and tan with circular foot, powerful painted design of crested saurian creature with spiraling tail, unusual black graphics above and in reserves. The creature is exceptionally expressive with toothy grin, large clawed feet and long curled tail. One of the nicest examples we have seen. Size: 13.5" W x 13.5" H (34.3 cm x 34.3 cm); 16" H (40.6 cm) on included custom stand.
