Description:

Australia, early 20th century CE. This is a large wooden "returning" boomerang, with its characteristic airfoil shape. In 1688, the English explorer William Dampier became the first European to observe the use of boomerangs in Australia; his description, in which he wrote that it was like a wooden cutlass, aroused the imagination of Europeans and became one of the famous symbols of the Aboriginal people and the Australian continent. Boomerangs are the earliest example of heavier-than-air flight invented by humans! Size: 41.5" L x 2" W (105.4 cm x 5.1 cm).
