Pre-Columbian, Colima, West Mexico, ca. 300 BCE / CE.  A large and quite handsome redware pottery dog.  Plump companion for the tomb for both food and company.  Covered in deep red slip with deeply incised eyes, perky ears and smiling face.  Stone-polished surface replete with manganese blooms.  Size:  15-1/2"L x 10"H. Provenance: Ex-private Ramon Kelly collection, acquired in the 1980's.
