Description:

Pre-Columbian, West Mexico, Colima, ca. 300 BCE to 300 CE. An elaborately decorated standing pottery flat, modeled in a style referred to as "gingerbread" for obvious reasons. The figure possesses a characteristic triangular head, pantomime-like pose, and expressive visage comprised of a long protruding nose and a gentle incised smile. This highly decorated, noble warrior dons a 'beaded' banded 'helmet', pierced ears for suspending ornaments, a grand 'beaded' pectoral, armbands, and a fanciful loin cloth. Nice manganese deposits and root marks to boot! Comes with custom, museum-quality stand. Size: 10" H (25.4 cm); 10.875" H (27.6 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: ex-Saint Petersburg, Florida, USA collection, ex-private Chicago, Illinois, USA collection, acquired in the 1960s
