Description:

Ancient Near East, modern day northern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1000 BCE. A cast bronze short sword or dagger with a thick, low rib and a short, pointed tang, notable for its beautiful turquoise patina. Bronze Age Luristan weapons were the work of nomadic herdsmen and horsemen who crafted small, portable objects, including daggers, swords, and other weapons. Weapons like this one would almost certainly have been entombed in the small rock graves in which its owners was buried; similar pieces come from the archaeological sites of Marlik and Kalar Dasht. Size: 16.125" L x 2.875" W (41 cm x 7.3 cm)

Provenance: private Denver, Colorado USA collection; ex estate of John Piscopo. Mr. Piscopo was one of the largest collectors of ancient weapons in the USA with a collection that spanned all cultures, all ages
