Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1000 CE. A finely-preserved sewing basket of woven reeds containing a gathering of various original weaver's tools. Included in the basket are 46 wooden needles; 8 needles with pottery spindle whorls; 13 needles with thread spools; 18 needles with both spools and spindle whorls; 2 wooden and 1 bone thread separators; 2 bone drug spatulas; 2 metal tupu pins; 1 gourd vessel with pyro-engraved motifs; 1 length of braided cord; 2 balls of thread; 1 mussel shell palette with traces of red pigment; 1 two-sided thread comb; 2 wooden, 21 pottery, and 6 fragmentary loose spindle whorls. Size (basket): 8.5" L x 13.75" W x 7.5" H (21.6 cm x 34.9 cm x 19 cm).
