Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Chancay, ca. 1200 to 1450 CE. A grand and gorgeous textile panel comprised of tightly-woven natural fibers in hues of beige and brown, with a series of painted designs in teal, copper, dark-brown, and cream colors. Central to the decorative elements are four standing figures. Two figures appear to be male with delineated genitalia, large tunics, and broad faces, with arms extending outwards, and the other two are more-abstract anthropomorphs with extended claws, segmented beards, striking visages, and ornate headdresses. A vertical section of floral and zoomorphic figures decorate the lateral side, and repeating stepped motifs adorn the areas above and below the standing figures. Size: 24" W x 27" H (61 cm x 68.6 cm).
