Description:

**Previously Listed At $150

Pre-Columbian, Central Coast Peru, Chancay culture, ca. 1000 to 1470 CE. A well-executed large, round bottomed bottle of an egg-shaped form with a wide neck and applied, twin loop handles linking the neck and body. The walls are finely painted with horizontal registers - the upper and lower registers featuring motifs likely referencing sinuous serpents crawling in a mountainous landscape and the central register presenting abstract, stylistic geometrics comprised of triangular forms delineated with lively, linear marks that may reference textile patterns, this same pattern adorning the vessel's sides in a vertical arrangement. All is beautifully painted in hues of brick red, chocolate brown, and creamy beige. A fabulous example. Size: 8.25" W x 9.75" H (21 cm x 24.8 cm)

Provenance: Ex -private Richard E. Johnson collection, Acton, ME, acquired between 1970 and 1980.
