Description:

Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Paquime/Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1450 CE. A large and lovely coil-made pottery olla with a hemispheric base, gently tapering walls, a deep interior cavity, and a ever-so-slightly flared rim. The exterior is decorated with a fine line register of triangular, linear, curvilinear, and stepped motifs in hues of red and black, all atop a cream ground. Ramos, as a stylistic designation, is used when red-hued painted forms are outlined in black. The most exceptional Casas Grandes vessels usually have Ramos-style designs, and examples such as this show how this style required great skill and aesthetic vision. Size: 10.25" in diameter x 9.625" H (26 cm x 24.4 cm)

Provenance: private Southern California, USA collection, acquired in the 1970s to mid-1980s
