Description:

Ancient Greece, Boeotia, ca. 575 to 550 BCE. A hand-built horse head of a sizable form with a stocky neck, a tapered snout with pinprick eyes, and a prominent crested mane. A small patch of white pigment at the base of the neck suggests the horse was at one time painted with bright pigments, and the sheer size of the composition indicates the full figure would have been quite large. Size: 1.5" W x 3.7" H (3.8 cm x 9.4 cm); 4.5" H (11.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Provenance: private Alabama, USA collection; ex-Roy Green collection
