Description:

Native American, Southwestern US, Anasazi (Ancient Puebloan) culture, ca. 1100 to 1250 CE. A beautiful black-on-white snowflake pottery pitcher, created by the coil and scrape technique. The designs are interlocking and geometric, with stepped, sloping ridges that suggest the dramatic red rock formations of the landscape of this region. The pitcher is a distinctive artifact class from the Chaco Canyon region, although it spread throughout the Four Corners region during this time of economic prosperity and enormous growth; within a few decades, pitchers were replaced by Mesa Verde style mugs, with straight rather than bulbous bodies. Size: 6.25" W x 6.8" H (15.9 cm x 17.3 cm)

Provenance: private Ventura County, California, USA collection
