Description:

Native American/First Nations, Pacific Northwest Coast, ca. 1983 CE. A handsome, large cedar chest with a fitted lid, carved in the traditional style of the bentwood boxes that Native people in this area used to store food from long before the period of European contact. This example is decorated with painted figures on all four sides - a massive series of interlocking faces within faces on the wide front and back, and birds on the sides, all painted with black outlines and highlighting red, green, and sky blue pigment. On the underside, it is stamped with "Kent Perry 1983" and a logo of a beaver - perhaps the original owner of the piece. Size: 11.3" L x 25" W x 14.6" H (28.7 cm x 63.5 cm x 37.1 cm)
