Description:

West Africa, Nigeria, Nupeci (sometimes Nupe) people, ca. mid 20th century CE. A thick, heavy terracotta vessel with a cylindrical body that narrows at the neck before flaring outward into a tall, broad rim. The exterior has a highly abstract anthropomorphic form, with projecting breasts and an ornate navel. Linear patterns are densely incised around the entirety of the body. Size: 9.75" W x 19.75" H (24.8 cm x 50.2 cm)
