Description:

Latin America, Mexico, ca. first half of the 20th century CE. A hand-carved wooden skeleton figure with fully articulated arms and legs via small textile patches around the knees and elbows. The thighs and shoulders of the figure also articulate, and the planar bottom allows the upper body to sit upright. The emaciated body boasts incised ribs, an hourglass-form waist, bony fingers, and rounded shoulders, and the stationary head has hollow eye sockets and tab-shaped teeth. The figure is painted with stark-white pigment, and only the boots and coiffure exhibit a dark-brown color. Size: 9.75" W x 40" H (24.8 cm x 101.6 cm).
