Description:

Spain, ca. 19th century CE. A huge glazed terracotta water vessel of a substantive bulbous form with very wide and heavy twin applied strap handles joining rim to shoulders, and two applied decorative filets, tastefully adorned with thumbprint impressions, on each shoulder, all glazed in a stunning brick red glaze. It's amazing to think that someone could actually throw a piece this large on a wheel. Perhaps the task required an assistant to turn the wheel while the artisan built the piece. Size: 15" in diameter x 15.25" H (38.1 cm x 38.7 cm)
