Description:

East Asia, China, late Qing Dynasty, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A massive ginger jar vessel with matching lid and vibrant motifs in enamel and gold gilt across the surface. The busy surface is covered with flower motifs in pastels and cobalt blue hues, with framed scenes of birds in flowering branches - a lively example of export ware. The base is stamped with a Chinese seal script in red. This jar is an interesting mix of cross-cultural styles with elements of Japanese Imari style, Nonya ware from Peranakan-Chinese culture, and the famille rose coloring. Size: 9.5" Diameter x 19" H (24.1 cm x 48.3 cm)
