Description:

Native American, Acoma / Laguna, Northern Arizona or New Mexico, ca. 1920 CE. A beautiful polychrome, curvaceous olla with handbuilt with remarkably thin walls created via the coil-and-scrape technique and finely painted in orange, black, and cream slips with abstract depictions of birds with pointed beaks appearing to be pollinating botanical elements on the underbody and globular midsection and four panels of signature Acoma black on cream checkerboard patterns resulting in a negatively painted stepped pyramidal motif in the center of each panel on the subtly flaring neck to rim area. Even the inner rim and neck of this piece is decorated with lovely repeated stylized geometrics most likely inspired by elements of the natural world in hues of orange, black, and cream. A stunning vessel with an elegant silhouette and brilliantly painted composition by a Pueblo potter of the Southwest. Size: 12.75" W x 11" H (32.4 cm x 27.9 cm)
