Description:

Europe, United Kingdom, ca. 18th century CE. A pewter platter or large serving dish, presenting a simple form: a shallow bowl and a wide rim with a rolled edge. On one side is a makers' mark, stamped "ER". During the medieval period, pewter plates and utensils were possessed by aristocrats in Europe, and pewter continued to be widely used until the late 18th century when the combination of porcelain imports and the invention of electroplating essentially ended the industry. Size: 16.7" W x 0.9" H (42.4 cm x 2.3 cm)
