Lane Palmisano (American, late 20th century to present). "Portrait of a Sister" oil on canvas, 1987. Hand-signed with date at lower left; titled on verso. A beautiful figural painting by American artist Lane Palmisano depicting the artist's sister during an intimate moment of self reflection in her bedroom. Standing before a mirror and bureau in a lace and silk nightgown, she places one hand on the back of her head holding up her wavy brunette locks as she gazes downward, avoiding the eyes of the viewer and placing her other hand on her hip in a somewhat seductive pose. Her bedroom exudes femininity; light pink drapes shade the window, perfume and makeup containers scatter her dresser, and florals dominate the background, both in the form of decoration on her wallpaper, lampshade, and jewelry box as well as the actual blossoms of tiger lilies and lilacs that surround her. Size of painting: 45.5" W x 35.25" H (115.6 cm x 89.5 cm); of frame: 47.75" W x 37.75" H (121.3 cm x 95.9 cm)
About the artist: "After 28-years as a studio artist and instructor at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, VA, Lane has settled in Bluffton, SC, just west of Hilton Head Island. Lane draws inspiration from the coastal light and lush landscapes. Her vibrant oil paintings are in private and public collections throughout the world.
'I embrace the world through color
oil painting is my joy and often, my savior.'
Lane's evocative 'spirit-scapes' are drenched in color using a loose impasto application along with old master glazing techniques. This creates oil paintings with unique textures and luminosity. Layers of brush work and palette knife application create depth and mystery within each canvas. A sensual use of color pays tribute to her mentors, the impressionists.
'When working from one's imagination, a painting can only be coaxed
eventually the work must follow its own life-force, be it playful, forceful or impulsive.'
Currently, Lane has an expanded studio and is showing her available paintings here and at her home in Bluffton, South Carolina." (source: artist's website)
