Description:

Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Lambayeque, ca. 800 to 1000 CE. A wonderful pottery jar on a sloped, circular foot, with a globular body and a tall, conical spout. Adorned with black pigment, the exterior of the vessel features a horizontal register of 4 warriors in profile above a register of 6 circles, divided by 5 horizontal striations. A cylindrical handle swoops up the side, connecting the vessel body to the spout, while the base is embellished in relief by a band of spiraling ocean waves and a stepped pyramidal pattern. Size: 5.375" in diameter x 8" H (13.7 cm x 20.3 cm)
