Description:

Pre-Columbian, South America, Argentina, La Aguada/Aquada culture, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A hefty storage vessel with a flat base and a generally triangular body, hand-carved from a mottled brown stone with light and dark inclusions. A funnel mouth is situated in the center of a rounded spout, and an integral loop handle joins the spout to the bottom of the body. Three highly-stylized anthropomorphic faces are carved into the exterior curve of the handle, each with drilled eyes, square noses, and puffy lips set inside ovoid heads. An incised sawtooth register adorns the shoulder, and the mid-section is carved with a strip of diagonally-striated lines. Size: 3.625" W x 3.25" H (9.2 cm x 8.3 cm).
