Pre-Columbian, Argentina, La Aguada / Aquada culture, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. A hand-built and highly burnished greyware pottery olla with a concave base, tall walls, and a thin rim surrounding the deep basin. The exterior walls are intricately decorated with incised cruciform patterns enclosed within diamond-shaped borders, and white pigment is rubbed within the striations to further accentuate the detailing. Size: 8.6" W x 5.4" H (21.8 cm x 13.7 cm)

  • Condition: Professional repairs to areas of rim and walls, with nearly invisible resurfacing and overpainting along break lines. Abrasions and nicks to rim, exterior walls, and base, with areas of fire-darkening along rim and upper body, fading to white pigmentation, and softening to some incised details. Light earthen deposits throughout. Old inventory label beneath base.
