Ulrica Hydman Vallien (Swedish, 1938-2018). Art glass vase for Kosta Boda, n.d. Signed at lower edge of vase with "Kosta Boda since 1742" label above. "Kosta Boda Artist Coll. Ulrica HV 48745" etched on smoothed pontil. A Kosta Boda Swedish glass vase made by the masterful Ulrica Hydman Vallien, one of Sweden's leading glass artists of the 20th and 21st century. The vase presents a hand painted woman's face with long-lashed green eyes, an aquiline nose, and red lips. Below her chin is a black-spotted yellow snake. The vessel body presents a curvaceous form with an elegant protrusion in the area of the woman's nose, raised pointed termini at each side of the vessel's mouth, and boldly painted facial features that create a wonderful contrast with the glass' soft pink and white hues. A fabulous example of Ulrica Hydman Vallien's artistry and Kosta Boda's elite standards. Size: 6.875" L x 6.75" W x 13.25" H (17.5 cm x 17.1 cm x 33.7 cm)

Kosta Boda, formerly known as Kosta Glasbruk, is a Swedish glassmaking company founded in 1742 by two officers in Charles XII's army - Anders Koskull and Georg Bogislaus Stael. The name of the company is a portmanteau of these founders' surnames Ko(skull) + Sta(el). The company is located in Kosta, Sweden, a town named for the company.

Ulrica Hydman Vallien studied art at "Konstfack" in Stockholm, and then worked at Kosta Boda glassworks for over 40 years. Ulrica became a prominent designer of glass vases, bowls and sculptures with colorful expressions. Her artistry is represented at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
