Description:

East Asia, Korea, Silla Dynasty, ca. 668 to 935 CE. A fine blackware pottery storage jar used for containing various types of foodstuffs. The vessel is defined by a flat base, an inverted piriform body, a sloped shoulder that tapers in to form the gently corseted neck, and a flared rim surrounding the deep interior cavity. The vessel was at one time covered with orange pigment that created streak marks across the shoulder and upper body, though the faded pigment has revealed the black hue of the pottery beneath. Size: 7" W x 9.9" H (17.8 cm x 25.1 cm)

Provenance: private Los Angeles, California, USA collection, 1980s-2000s
