East Asia, Korea, Kingdom of Goryeo (Koryo), ca. 12th century CE. A beautiful Goryeo Dynasty celadon glazed pottery vessel of a characteristically simple yet elegant form comprised of a generally globular body, leading to a short gently tapering tubular neck, and a carinated mouth with an outfolded rim. The celadon glaze on this example casts a golden yellow hue, and it is thin enough so that the textured surface of the exterior walls still comes through. A lovely example. Size: 5.875" W x 8" H (14.9 cm x 20.3 cm)

Provenance: Estate of William Stockton, Colorado, USA; acquired between July 20, 1966 and January 7, 1974 while Mr. Stockton was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. During this period he traveled primarily to Korea, but also to Japan, Vietnam, and other countries in Southeast Asia.
