Description:

East Asia, South Korea, Goryeo/Koryo Dynasty, ca. 918 to 1392 CE. A cast bronze mirror with a polished face, an ornate back, and a small, knobbed handle. The edges are scalloped with 8 cusps, the back decorated with a stylized floral motif. Bronze mirrors that were polished on one side and decorated on the reverse were a popular luxury item coveted throughout East Asia. While they originated in China during the early years of China's development of bronze technology, circa 1700 BCE or possibly earlier, the taste for such mirrors spread beyond China's borders to Korea and Japan. Size: 4.25" W (10.8 cm)
