Description:

South Asia, Northwestern India, Kashmir region, ca. late 20th to early 21st century CE. A hand-knotted silk carpet with a cotton base, featuring a classic floral design and a central medallion inspired by the Persian Tabriz tradition. The fine knot density allows for intricate patterns that enhance the carpet's durability and longevity. Warm ochre yellow and beige tones contrast with deep teal and mint blue hues, while the natural sheen of the silk fibers create a luxurious velvety pile and harmonious color palette. Persian rug traditions were introduced to India, particularly Kashmir, in the 16th century under Mughal Emperor Akbar, who brought Persian artisans to the region. These artisans fused Persian motifs with local influences, creating distinct Kashmiri designs renowned for their elegance and craftsmanship. Today, Kashmiri rugs are highly prized for their intricate detailing, use of fine materials, and historical connection to Persian and Indian artistry. Size: 75" L x 47.5" W (190.5 cm x 120.6 cm)
