Simon bar Kochba, or bar Kokhba, was the Jewish leader of the Bar Kochba revolt against the Roman Empire in 132 CE. He ruled as prince over an independent Jewish state for three years before the territory was re-conquered by the Romans. This coin was issued during the second year of his reign.
