Description:

John Ward (American, Contemporary). "Window and Screen Mineral Point, Colorado" photograph, 1979. A striking black and white photograph of an old wooden window and its torn screen shot from an abandoned structure in the ghost town of Mineral Point, Colorado by John Ward who trained at the New York Institute of Photography. With his keen eye for lighting and composition, Ward captured a poignant view of this window - inviting us to experience this "window" onto the abandoned past life and activities of a Colorado ghost town. Size (photograph): 19.25" L x 14.375" W (48.9 cm x 36.5 cm) Size (frame): 28.125" L x 22.125" W (71.4 cm x 56.2 cm)

Mineral Point was a Colorado mining town settled in 1875. According to the Western Mining History website, "Mineral Point was described both as one of the San Juan's remotest camps, and one if its best producers. Despite the camp having a post office for over 20 years and being the site of many noteworthy mines, very few historic photos exist of this seemingly important camp. At over 11,700 feet, Mineral Point was the highest camp in the area, and experienced the harshest winters. It is likely that most winters the town had just a skeleton crew of citizens, with the short summer season being the time that hundreds of miners resided in the town."
