East Asia, Japan, Showa period, ca. 1926 to 1989 CE. A lovely wooden hibachi brazier formed from Kiriwood with a copper insert and adorned with makie ( lacquer) decoration of peonies. Originally, this container to hold burning charcoal was used as a heating device for the Japanese home. Size: 8.6" Diameter x 7.3" H (21.8 cm x 18.5 cm)
