Description:

East Asia, Japan, Muromachi Period, ca. 1392 to 1573 CE. A handsome, hand-shaped stoneware vessel, ash-glazed to a deep brown-red color, stamped over much of its surface with a tight, woven motif that gives it a light texture. The body is rounded, with a flat base, a wide shoulder, and a round mouth with thin, rolled rim. In medieval Japan, there were six kilns around the country that produced ceramics for everyday use, known today as the Six Early Kilns. Their wares are known for a rustic beauty, as this example shows. Size: 8.7" W x 6.5" H (22.1 cm x 16.5 cm)
