East Asia, Japan, Meiji to Showa era, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A carved and painted wooden mask in the Noh style depicting a Tengu, a supernatural beings that was portrayed in many forms, evolving from bird-like and monkey creatures to a anthropomorphic goblins with red faces and long noses. Tengu appear in the Noh theatre tradition such as "Kurama-tengu," and their role varies from demons, protective spirits, and trouble makers. Size: 7" L x 5" W (17.8 cm x 12.7 cm); 10" H (25.4 cm) on included custom stand.

Interestingly, there is a modern emoji of this mask on most phones - a red face with a long nose and an angry expression.
