East Asia, Japan, Meiji Period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century. A carved kiri wood log or tree trunk vessel, with a copper insert and a lacquered or gilt bird and leafy vine inlay, possibly used as a Ikebana vase, brush pot, or a small hibachi brazier. Size: 6" Diameter x 11.5" H (15.2 cm x 29.2 cm)

  • Condition: Copper insert is removable and has mineral buildup and green oxidation. Chips and scratches to wood surface, but otherwise intact. Some fading to gilt, but inlays and pigment are still bright and well preserved.
