Description:

East Asia, Japan, late Meiji period, ca. early to mid 20th century. A finely cast brass netsuke of two felines intertwined. The cats' bodies are positioned with their heads facing each other at the center. One head is slightly larger; perhaps this is a mother and kitten. The base is finely carved with their legs and paws. These could be tigers, which are one of the symbols of the zodiac; after the 18th century, it became common for people to own a netsuke amulet or figure relating to the year of their birth. A charming netsuke that would be perfect for a feline lover! Size: 1.75" W x 1" H (4.4 cm x 2.5 cm)

Provenance: private Arcadia, California, USA collection, acquired prior to 2000
