East Asia, Japan, Meiji to Showa period, ca. late 19th to early 20th century CE. A lovely portable wooden storage box with a set of 4 drawers by Zohiko (est. 1661) with their characteristic elephant mark on the base. with brass handles and a removable front panel that slides in place to prevent the drawers from sliding out when not in use. The lacquered red and black surfaces are decorated with gilt maki-e and cutout floral patterns. Size: 5.5" L x 5.75" W x 8" H (14 cm x 14.6 cm x 20.3 cm)

  • Condition: The top panel with the handle is completely loose and needs to be reattached. Cracking and chips to lacquer along the seams of top panel where it detached. Some surface nicks and abrasions to lacquer in other others. Zohiko mark on base is clear.
