East Asia, Japan, Edo period, ca. 1603 to 1868 CE. A hand-carved wooden archery stand with a curved body, a forked base, an openwork collar, a narrow leather arrow tip holder with a gold-colored flower on the front, and a pair of semicircular curves on the top. The backward-facing semicircles along the top are meant to hold two tall archery bows when not in use, and the collar and cup hold several arrows at a time. Included with the archery stand are 8 bamboo arrows with pointed steel tips and one with a wooden whistling head. Size (archery stand): 5.375" W x 35.4" H (13.7 cm x 89.9 cm); (longest arrow): 38.5" L (97.8 cm).
